Paul arrives in Athens.

Paul se le mostró el Areópago (roca de Aries).

The Areopagus was a hill on which the High Judicial Council of Athens met.

Había allí un altar dedicado : "Al Dios desconocido".

Paul takes that dedicatory title and decided to make the “unknown God” a “known God” for the Athenians.

Paul reveals to the Athenians that the “unknown God” is the one true God whom Paul has come to tell them about.

The reaction to Paul’s message is mixed.

Some “scoffed” at Paul.

Otros querían saber más "en otro momento."

Y otros, including Dionysius a member of the Court of the Areopagus joined Paul and became believers.
Jesus departure is imminent.

The Son is true to the Father’s word.

The Spirit will be true to the Son’s word.

We can be true to the Father and Son if we are guided by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth.

The Spirit will guide us in truth.

The Spirit will reveal to us the things that are coming.

Let us listen in faith to the words of truth that the Spirit speaks.

My sisters and brothers in Christ.

The first reading today addresses the first major crisis the Christian community faced.

La palabra escrita "crisis" en chino está formado por dos figuras. Una de las figuras significa "peligro" el otro "oportunidad".

No hay garantía de que una persona o un grupo de personas en "crisis" optan por transformar la situación de ser un "peligro" para ser una "oportunidad".

In the case of the early Christian community the crisis had to do with who could be “in” and who was “out” of the community.

The Book of Apocalypse /Revelation treats the theme of the universality of the Christian community as well.

The “holy city” has no temple.

The reason for this is clearly stated by the “seer” John.

Jesus speaks about the Father and Jesus living in his“holy people” in the Gospel today.

Jesus is not speaking about our going to a temple or a building or a place where the Father and son live.

Jesus is telling us that the Father and Jesus continually are “searching” for us.

The Gospel today is about how “the search” continues after Jesus goes to the Father.

The Advocate has three functions.

La cuestión de los Gentiles que entran en la comunidad cristiana se resuelve Peter explicando su misión ha sido la de llevar la palabra del Evangelio a los gentiles. Dios ha querido que los gentiles "creer".

El Espíritu Santo es dado a los gentiles y "no hay distinción entre nosotros (los Judios) y los (los gentiles).”

To impose distinctions is “to put God to the test” according to Peter.

Siguiente James habla. James, como Pedro, holds a special place in the leadership of the church in Jerusalem.

James cita al profeta Amos (9:11,12) quien afirma que "…el resto de la humanidad puede buscar al Señor (incluso) incluso todos los gentiles…."

James "decide" que los gentiles no se preocuparon con la circuncisión, sino que deben respetar ciertas normas dietéticas y el matrimonio de la judía (Mosaico) Law.

Esta solución es aceptada y gentiles son libres de entrar en la comunidad cristiana.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús explica a sus discípulos como "mantener (Jesús) mandamientos es la forma en que "permanezcamos en su amor.”

The early followers of Christ had to answer various questions.

La pregunta básica fue "¿Cómo judía qué tenemos que ser seguidores de Cristo?"

Las personas más cercanas estaban a Jerusalén, en la narración según los Hechos de los Apóstoles, el más "judío" en términos de "observación" leyes religiosas judías, costumbres y creencias.

La historia de Pedro y la conversión de Cornelio en Hechos 10 ilustra el punto. Pedro es llamado a Cesarea (de Jerusalén) a “ministro” to Cornelius a non Jew.

Los misioneros, al igual que Pablo y Bernabé, apparently saw less need to adhere closely to “Jewish” practices.

Paul seems to have more than one if not nine lives.

The disciples gather around Paul and he gets up and walks into the city.

Paul and Barnabas are attacked.

Ellos "huir".

Oxen are brought to be offered in sacrifice to Zeus and Hermes.

Paul has a difficult time explaining that he is only a messenger and speaks to the gentiles about the one true God.

No vamos a estar solos. We will be taught and we will be reminded of everything the Father has taught us through the Son.

My sisters and brothers in Christ.

The Easter season tells the story of a frightened group of people being transformed by someone who died a shameful death and was raised from the dead.

La transformación comienza con Jesús, la persona que murió. Jesus overcomes death and is raised up.

The transformation does not affect only the person who died.

El grupo asustada de gente viene a la fe, belief and courage.

El grupo de asustados de personas, que hemos aprendido en este tiempo de Pascua, llegaron a ser tan audaz que las autoridades no podían mantenerlos en silencio. Imprisonment and imposing death by stoning did not discourage followers of the way.

El grupo de gente asustada pasar de la traición, fright and locked doors to becoming faithful disciples.

By choice and because of persecution the disciples spread the word of victory over death and new life in Jesus the Christ.

The joy of the new life in Christ is tempered by reality.

The first reading today concludes with the report of a “major development” in the story of the early community.

The “opened door of faith” meant that the followers of Jesus would not be a geographically and ethnically localized group within Judaism.

Once “the door of faith” is opened to non Jews the followers of Christ will bring Good News to the whole world.

En el evangelio de hoy Jesús está preparando a sus discípulos para su "salida" de ellos. We will celebrate that “departure event” known as the Ascension in two weeks.

Jesús explica es necesaria la "salida" si Jesús debe ser "glorificado" y si Dios (el Padre) is to be “glorified” in and by Jesus.

Jesus gives a new commandment as he prepares to depart.

El mandamiento se compone de tres palabras:

The reasons we are to “Love one another” are quite simple and quite practical.

The first reason we need to “Love one another” is that we must imitate Christ as we follow him.

Jesus is the Word made flesh.

Jesus knew glorifying the Father was more that words and talk.

Jesus wants his followers to understand following him is about deeds as well as words.

En el libro del Apocalipsis nos da todavía dos razones más para

"Amaos los unos a los otros. "

En la visión de Juan de "un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva" Juan oye una gran voz,

"Preservar, La morada de Dios está con la humanidad "y

"Preservar, Yo hago nuevas todas las cosas ".

Si la morada de Dios es verdad "con la raza humana", y Dios hace "nuevas todas las cosas"

entonces

we glorify God.

Evangelistas tienen y llevar el Evangelio, Good News.

El Evangelio, Buena, requires humility.

¿Quiénes somos para pensar que podemos tener, traer y dar algo tan valioso, rica y vivificante como "buena noticia"?

Traemos las buenas nuevas dondequiera que estemos, donde quiera que vayamos, wherever we end up.

Suena arrogante, sermoneador, presumptuous to think what we can have something so transformative to impart or give to anyone else.

How many people has “Mark’s” Good News, Evangelio tocó, transformados y salvados?

The humility has to do not only with our inability to ever be worthy of receiving much less carrying and giving the “Good News Gospel” to others.

We humbly listen to the word.

We humbly receive consecrated bread and holy wine.

"De Dios, que todos los pueblos te alaben!” the Psalm refrain today pleads.

El libro de los Hechos comienza con el resumen de la primera comunidad de los discípulos:

The word “spreads and grows.” This is true of the history of the Christian community.

We hope “the word continues to spread and grow” in each of us.

The call of Saul and Barnabas was to a specific work.

Life “under the word” guides and transforms us.

La historia de la iglesia primitiva es una historia de crecimiento, development and increase due to persecution.

The motivation to spread the Gospel was not simply the desire to share the gift of the Good News.

The Gospel arrived to many places because the followers of Jesus were for one reason or another on the move.

Jesus finds a “lack of belief” in the temple.
